Resolution of Generic Safety Issues: Item B-73: Monitoring for Excessive Vibration Inside the Reactor Pressure Vessel ( NUREG-0933, Main Report with Supplements 1–35 )

DESCRIPTION

Historical Background

The ACRS raised a concern that there is a need to develop criteria for vibration monitoring systems which could provide early warning of excessive vibration inside the reactor vessel. This item is documented in NUREG-0471.3

Safety Significance

Vibration could be an early indication of possible problems.

Possible Solution

A possible solution would be to develop criteria for instrumentation for monitoring excessive vibration inside the reactor vessel. Then, industry would be required to include instrumentation to meet the criteria.

CONCLUSION

This item is covered in this section of the report under Item C-12.
